Got Talent?
By Diane Krakora, President & CEO

One of the key concerns Cisco voiced at their Partner Summit last week is the growing need for experienced and certified individuals – for Cisco, its partners and its customers. Edison Peres, VP Worldwide Channels, estimates there are about 75,000 certified individuals throughout the world. This is not meeting the demand, as several partner execs I talked to, including Stuart Raburn, president of TekLinks, and Pat Scheckel, senior director of products and solutions at Berbee, indicated they are actively looking for experienced resources for their organizations.
If Cisco expects to double revenues by 2020, the company will need to more than double the number of individuals that are certified. Peres estimated Cisco would need 50,000 new certified individuals in the next 5 years. Without this growth of certified individuals, Cisco anticipates a customer satisfaction issue – customers not able to effectively use and manage their advanced technologies from Cisco and partners (VARs. SIs) not able to correctly sell, install and manage these solutions. The talent shortage is compounded by growth focused on newer unified communications and telepresence solutions instead of the switches, routers and hubs technologies that are well known in the industry.
